Gen Cote

Owner & Head Trainer

Hello, my name is Gen, and I’m glad you’re taking the time to learn more about why I may be the right trainer for you. I encourage you to read through this website and come loaded with any questions you may have! My journey into dog training started when I was a teenager working in dog daycares, where I cared for hundreds of dogs and gained firsthand insight into the realities of the industry. From there, I enrolled at Tarheel Canine, a well known school for dog trainers and police K9s. During seven months of intensive, hands on training, I learned from highly experienced professionals and built a strong foundation in obedience, canine behavior, and advanced skills like scent detection, tracking, and protection. I worked with a wide range of dogs, from easygoing family pets to those with more serious behavioral challenges. After graduating, I spent two years working at a canine behavior modification facility in North Dakota. There, I continued learning from skilled trainers with different but equally respected educational backgrounds. I worked closely with dogs from many different environments, including rescues from reservations, who often showed complex and extreme behaviors. That experience reinforced something I strongly believe: every dog is an individual, and training should reflect that. The most effective approach is one that is thoughtful, adaptable, and compassionate. I create personalized training programs that support both the dog and the owner. My approach considers the dog’s physical and mental needs, combines positive reinforcement with clear and fair boundaries, and focuses on long term success. My goal is to motivate owners to stay committed to the process so they can truly enjoy life with their dogs. With patience, consistency, and the right guidance, I believe any dog can thrive and become a balanced member of the family. Education is also very important to me. I regularly attend seminars and workshops and stay current with research in canine behavior and training. I believe informed owners are empowered owners. Through personalized coaching, detailed guidance, and ongoing support through video and text messaging, I provide clients with the tools they need to continue making progress beyond our sessions. I own two personal dogs that are training for different sports and purposes. My Giant Schnauzer Bavaria is my Service Dog and is also competing in American Shutzhund where she has completed her BT certificate. Bavaria is also a bed bug detection dog and is now learning to locate certain explosives. My Dutch Shepherd, Hari is competing in the Level 1's in PSA (Protection Sport Association) and does personal protection training in addition to protection sports. My fiancee Joli owns a mixed breed named Bullfrog who is also training for protection sports and scent work titles. If you are looking for a dedicated and compassionate trainer that can teach you more than just the basics, and you are ready to make meaningful changes to support your dog, I would love to work with you. Together, we can build a strong, lasting partnership and help your dog reach their full potential.
