FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What style of training does Visionary Canine use?
Visionary Canine's training principals are based off of "balanced training". This term covers a wide variety of training techniques. Balanced training simply means we use all four quadrants of learning and tools. Recent non-biased scientific studies have proven balanced approaches are the most effective way to communicate and train with a dog. An ethical, holistic and balanced approach is necessary for behavior modification because it combines positive reinforcement, like rewards, with negative reinforcement, such as corrections, allowing the dogs to learn what behaviors are good and which are undesirable. Combining this with operant conditioning (learning through experience) and classical conditioning (learning by association), a full picture of how to get rewarded and come back from making a mistake or struggling with competing motivators is presented to the dog. The ethical way we train focuses on empathy and respect, avoiding harsh punishments as a first response, and alternatively guiding the dog. We also consider the dog's overall well-being, taking into account their genetics, environment, health, diet, and socialization.

Do I get to choose what tools my dog goes on?
Dog trainers are trained to recognize subtle cues and behavior patterns that clients might miss. They know how different tools and methods can affect a dog, depending on the dog's temperament, breed, age, and any behavioral challenges it might have. Trainers can adapt their approach with tools to ensure the dog is learning in the most effective and humane way possible. It is your trainer's responsibility that you understand why we selected those particular tools and how/when we use them.
